Quick answer

[Official] For low frame rate, open Settings > Graphics and lower Render Scale first, then lower Quality. Once performance improves, increase Render Scale gradually until the game remains smooth at an acceptable image quality.

Use the official tuning order

  1. Open Settings > Graphics and reduce Render Scale to lower GPU load.
  2. Lower the Quality setting to reduce CPU and GPU load.
  3. Test the same demanding area or multiplayer session after each change.
  4. Increase Render Scale gradually until frame rate begins to suffer, then return to the last stable value.

Why host performance matters

[Official] The FAQ says low frame rate on the host can contribute to network symptoms such as jittery or skipping players. If everyone in the session sees erratic movement, test after the host lowers Quality or let a player with a steadier connection and frame rate host a new session. Remember that a different host will not carry the original host's saved progress.
